Greetings to all fellow airborne RC professionals from me, John Cunningham, of CARVEC Systems.
As some of you will know we have been making high-end flight control systems for many years - long before others joined in and the quality of the product has seen us survive where many of the original pioneers have gone.
Last year we collaborated with Freefly Systems to bring you the 'Radian' gimbal stabiliser - which is still one of the best servo-based systems you can buy.
Since then we have been working hard to take things to the next level and now CARVEC proudly present the G-Lock system. The G-Lock is a full 3-axis gimbal stabilisation system in a single module which can be remote-mounted under a camera tray and drive regular servos. We have taken on board many user requests for the new G-Lock - which now features great new functions like remote gain adjustment, super-smooth slew rate acceleration control, loading/saving configurations and many others.
I am particularly excited about the new brushless driver module which is under development right now. This will be available later this year and will connect to the G-Lock to give next-generation gimbal performance from a system which was designed from the ground-up to be a professional 3-axis stabiliser.
The G-Lock is compatible with existing Radian hardware and can be purchased as an upgrade.
We also present the CARVEC Signal Master module. This unit will remotely connect to the G-Lock using a special High-Speed Link (HSL) to drive the motor outputs and also manage your RC receiver inputs.
Please have a browse of the various threads which appear here over time and also at our website at CARVEC Systems
Happy flying,
JohnC

Hi John and everbody else. Nice to hear the news about the G-lock system.
How do I get hold of the conversion for my Radians?
Regards from sunny Sweden.

Hi Janne, The G-Lock will be released in the next couple of weeks ( i would say days even..)and you can buy the firmware upgrade licence directly from John / Carvec Systems. YOu will need to download a small application to get the hardware ID code of your actual Radian ( only one module is necessary) and then send this code to Carvec Systems. The Licence cost is pretty fair and will be soon given, as once upgraded, as one module becomes a 3 axis module, you can eithe sell the 2 other modules ( upgraded, or not..) or fit them in new gimbals. All details will be published by John very soon so i woudl simply suggest you to subscribe to this thread to get a notification when an update will be posted, but do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions Best regards, Fabien

Hi Janne,
Welcome to the forum !.
We are in the final stages of preparation for the release. The main obstacle at the moment is the update for the CARVEC System website to include all the details for the G-Lock.
The target date is Monday 2 September. This will be for the G-Lock upgrade via a web service. The other modules (Signal Master/ USB Adapter) will soon be ready for dealers and the brushless motor drive module will be available later after some further testing on the bigger gimbals.

I have been anxiously awaiting for the launch of the G-Lock product. I have a Cinestar 3 axis gimbal with three Radian units and want to go brushless motor drive as soon as possible. In the meantime I want to install the G-Lock system.
It sounds as though using a single Radian unit located under the camera tray would give the best results. Do I have to purchase a Signal Master module to be able to do that? If so, what is the cost and how do I go about ordering?
Also, could you please clarify whether a single license fee is to upgrade/convert a single Radian unit or can I upgrade all three?
Thanks Andrew Bailey Shooting High

Hi Andrew,
You can use the G-Lock without a signal-master module. The downside is that you need to route every servo cable to the front of the gimbal, along with enough power for everything. It's possible with the G-Lock mounted on the tilt-pulley but even there you need to be careful that it doesn't interfere with movement over the full range.
With the signal master, there is just a 4-wire connection and it is only low current so it is easy to fit the G-Lock right under the camera. All the power and thick wires can be put somewhere more convenient. We are just sorting out the stock and pricing for the Signal-Master : we will announce it soon - but as I mentioned, you can still use the G-Lock without it.
The upgrade is to change one Radian into a 3-axis G-Lock. Of course you now have 2 spare radians which you don't need any more ....

OK, thanks Thanks for your reply John. I will keep an eye out and order as soon a you have the signal master available. I would not want to have to go through the whole setup and wiring twice!
I have one question more. Can you share with us what the design output for the BLD Module is? Will it be capable of driving large motors without overheating? Rumour has it that Alex is working on a board capable of handling more amps, I am hoping that your solution has it covered.
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andy,
We already have stock of the signal-master : it is just a case of working out the pricing and making them available. We'll put details on the website as soon as possible - but they are 'ready'.
On the BLD driver, they just daisy-chain out from the G-Lock so it's not fixed to one type. The initial modules will be the 5A max versions which go up to the DSLR sized cameras. A bigger version will be available as soon as we can after that - but it will just be a case of plugging it in a tuning it up. You can even mix-and-match between all the motor drives if you want so you can upgrade the mount in stages (eg have a brushless motor on the tilt + roll and keep the pan as a servo).
We are working closely with some experts in brushless gimbals, so hopefully we can offer complete packages for the upgrade.

That sounds like a great approach. Lots of flexibility to configure in different ways. I am considering the possibility of using a brushless drive using a modified pulley and belt system on one or more axis. Will the BLD Driver allow setting of gearing parameters, or self adjust to deal with a 'geared' direct drive system? Sorry about all the questions. My mind is buzzing with the possibilities :-)

The BLD software just has regular gain so in theory it is adjusted to suit the mount and motor characteristics.
This is where the development of the module is at right now: we will put it on some bigger gimbals/motors very soon and the software will change to allow some gearing ratio if necessary - which will probably be if the current gain settings don't have a big enough range.
In my tests though, accuracy to which you can position the gimbal using a direct-drive motor is quite astonishing compared to servos. I don't know how much difference belts will make.

Hi John It is Paul from Angelsey, hope you are well. I still have the joker 3 with your system on it and it is still running well, infact last week i was doing a wedding shoot with it, i was wondering if you still supported the system as the computer that i was using to check my data is not working at the moment. I was wondering if you had an updated version for windows 7 or 8
Regards
Paul
